Lawn Equipment

1. Wear appropriate clothing: regular shoes (NO SANDALS) and full-length trousers. Use of eye and hearing protection is recommended. 
2. Operate grass-cutting equipment in dry conditions only.
3. Make sure blades are sharp, balanced, and not worn. 
4. Before starting the mower clear the mowing area: pick up any rocks, sticks, toys, etc. *Objects left in the mowing path may be picked up and shot through the air by the machine causing bodily injury and also damage to the machine.
5. Leave safety features intact. Removing them is dangerous and will void the manufacturer’s warranty.
6. Never leave the operator’s position without stopping the engine first. 
7. Avoid putting hands, feet, etc close to the blade path when the engine is running; keep in mind that the blade will take a few seconds to stop rotating after the engine is switched off.
8. When refueling: use clean, fresh, stabilized fuel. Do not smoke. Do not refuel indoors, or when the engine is hot. Clean up any spilled fuel before starting.
9. Always make sure proper viscosity oil is used in your engine: SAE 30 for walk-behind mowers and 10W30 for most riding mowers.
10. When mowing on slope, mow across with walk mowers, and up and down with riding mowers. 
11. Electric mowers: It is important to use a proper extension cord. Ensure that all electrical components are in good condition to avoid electrical shock. 
12. Always consult your owner’s manual for further instructions on proper use of your lawn and garden equipment.

Snow Blowers 

1. Wear proper-fitting clothing when operating your machine—no long scarves, etc. 
2. Before operation, make a visual circle check of your equipment, and the area that you will be cleaning: remove extension cords or doormats that may be in the way.
3. Check engine oil and fuel tank.
   a) 5W30 engine oil should be used
   b) ensure that fuel is clean and fresh* 
4. Check all controls for ease of operation. 
5. Set all controls in start position:
   a) Key on
   b) Gear-shift and levers in neutral or off position.
   c) Throttle at fast and choke on full.
   d) Electric start connected with proper cord to wall outlet. 
6. Start engine.
   a) Reduce throttle to half speed.
   b) Warm engine for 3-5 minutes so that choke can be placed in open position for proper engine performance. 
7. Adjust throttle to fast position.
   a) Adjust discharge chute to direction you want snow to be blown.
   b) Select wheel drive speed range for amount of snow.
   d) Engage auger.
   e) Engage wheel drive. 
8. Stop machine immediately if:
   a) Unusual noise is detected.
   b) Lugging of engine, or burning/squealing of drive belt occurs. 
9. At the end of each operation, perform the following:
   a) Adjust throttle to 1/3.
   b) Sweep exterior of machine with long handle broom.
   c) Make sure auger and fan are free of snow by re-engaging auger.
   d) Visual circle check for any damage or loose belts.
   e) Allow engine to run 15 minutes post-use to dry off any accumulated moisture.
   f) With key off, re-engage electric starter 2 or 3 times to knock any moisture off starter drive prevent freezing.
10. Always consult your owner’s manual for further instructions on proper use of your snow blower.
    
    *Make sure to use stabilizer in your fuel system, especially when storing machinery; gas will only stay fresh without stabilizer for 30-35 days.
